UK leadership team
Chey Garland CBE is CEO of Big Energy Group. As CEO, Chey is responsible for the long-term vision and direction of the company, working to align resources, talent and operations to serve clients and drive growth. Under her leadership, the company has enjoyed sustained growth and profitability and is well positioned to become one of the UK’s most trusted energy brokers.
As a renowned entrepreneur, Chey has over 40 years’ experience of successfully building businesses and has enjoyed high-profile success at a regional and national level. Her experience spans many sectors, where she has worked with leading brands to pioneer innovative customer service and process management solutions.
In 2001 Chey was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year, with later success following in 2005 when she won Veuve Clicquot’s Businesswoman of the Year award. In the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours List Chey was awarded a CBE for Services to Business in the North East of in England.
Callum Swain was appointed Commercial Director in March 2024 and is responsible for the execution of Big Energy Group’s five-year strategic plan. In his role Callum oversees the commercial performance of the company, driving key growth initiatives and developing new revenue streams that support wider business objectives.
Prior to joining Big Energy Group, Callum held roles at Toyota (GB) PLC, Lexus UK, Northumbria University and Magnetic North Group. During his career, Callum has established a successful track record of developing go-to-market strategies that support long-term brand, acquisition and retention objectives.
Callum holds a degree in BA (Hons) Corporate Management from Northumbria University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Callum has also lectured in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Strategy and has published in leading academic journals including the Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education.
Shane Lightfoot was named Big Energy Group’s Client Services Director in March 2024. In this capacity, Shane is responsible for enhancing the client experience through driving the delivery of the company’s coverage and capabilities to clients. Shane is a member of Big Energy Group’s Executive Management Team, which he joined in 2024.
Prior to his current role, Shane served as Head of Client Services at Magnetic North Group where he led the company’s Account Management function. Shane has also held positions with EDF Energy and Npower, where he managed domestic customer service teams and oversaw executive complaints departments.
Shane is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and regularly visits Big Energy Group’s client base across the UK. As Big Energy Group continues to grow, Shane is committed to making Big Energy Group the preeminent energy brokerage for I&C businesses with complex energy needs.

Adam Pearson joined Big Energy Group in 2023 as an Account Director. In this role, Adam oversees the day-to-day running of client accounts and utilises his experience to support clients with their purchasing decisions, helping them navigate the energy market. Adam’s expertise lies in negotiating contract terms with our supplier panel, ensuring our customers find the best solutions possible.
Boasting extensive industry experience, over the last two decades Adam has worked extensively across the energy industry, holding positions with Npower, E.ON and Magnetic North Group. During his career, Adam has developed a strong command of the UK energy market and enjoys facilitating informed client procurement decisions.
As Big Energy Group continues to grow Adam is focused on driving strategic partnerships and market opportunities for business growth and expansion. Since joining Big Energy Group, Adam acts as a Guru for the Music Venue Trust (MVT), where he helps grass roots music venues reduce their energy expenditure to safeguard their role in the community.
